1) *Tim Tebow QB 6'3 235 Florida Tebow was the first FBS player to rush and throw for 20 TDs in a season. While some discount this because he had tons of weapons at his disposal, the feat is great just the same. Also, bear in mind that he did it as a Sophomore. This kid is a dual threat who'll only get better with time. He's a smart guy and has his priorities in tact. By placing his relationship with God as number one in his life, he'll succeed no matter what he does. 2) *Matt Stafford QB 6'3 237 Georgia Stafford is moving into his third season as the starting QB for the "Dawgs. He has a great arm and places the ball well with some zip on it when needed. He has a big, solid frame, yet moves well in the pocket. In short, he's faced the type of top-notch competition that will only further his readiness to perform at the next level. The explosive running game will only open up the pass that much more for him. 3) Cullen Harper QB 6'3 220 Clemson Matt Ryan was the only QB in the ACC who looked better than Harper. While Harper faced fan and media pressure from those who wanted the starting QB nod to go to Willy Korn, he endured nicely and showed that it's his position...for now. He just missed the 3,000 passing yard mark last season, and showed great decision making with his 27:6 TD to Interception ratio. With Kelly, Ford, and Grisham all back, watch out! The Tiger Offense will be sick. 4) *Sam Bradford QB 6'4 210 Oklahoma Last season, the QB talk in the Big 12 was over Chase Daniel and Todd Reesing. However, neither is quite the caliber of QB that Bradford is. Bradford didn't have as many yards, but he had more TDs and a better TD to Interception ratio. Stats aside, Bradford is a tall QB with room to add bulk to his frame. He played in some nasty contests last year and showed good poise throughout. After 2008, he'll be NFL ready. 5) Curtis Painter QB 6'3 230 Purdue Over the past two seasons, Painter has thrown for 7,831 yards and 51 TDs. Some QBs don't have these stats over their entire career. However, the receptions made by Dorien Bryant, now gone, accounted for 2,004 yards (26%) and 14 TDs (27%). When you lose your best WR from the past two years, one could expect a decline. With that said, Painter has all the tools to play at the next level. The Pro style system experience helps. 6) *Nate Davis QB 6'2 218 Ball State Over the past several years, the MAC has become notorious for producing some very good QBs. Here's another one. While Davis did struggle with his accuracy at times last year, he had a tremendous season. He threw for 3,667 yards, 30 TDs and only 6 Interceptions. He has a great arm and can move well. He's also a great athlete and will compete against anyone. Threw the ball 49 times against Rutgers for 3 TDs, no picks. 7) Hunter Cantwell QB 6'4 235 Louisville Cantwell doesn't have the stats, just potential. With Brian Brohm firmly holding down the QB position over the last few years, Cantwell wasn't going to get many chances to get onto the field. He now has the opportunity he's been waiting for. But, it won't be an easy year. Last season, Brohm had Harry Douglas, Mario Urrutia and Gary Barnidge to throw to. Those three accounted for over 50% of the receiving yards. They're all gone. 8) *Dan LeFevour QB 6'3 236 Central Michigan If Nate Davis is in fact the best QB in the MAC, then LeFevour is a close second. As a Freshman, this prospect led all MAC passers in yards and TDs. Through his Sophomore year, he's tallied 6,700 yards passing and 53 TDs. He's a big kid who has great feet. He's a sick dual threat. While he does force the ball at times, he's not a huge liability. His top two WRs are back, so he'll light it up again. 9) Todd Boeckman QB 6'4 244 Ohio State It's easy for folks to pick on Boeckman with the losses suffered to Illinois and LSU. However, let us not forget that last year was his first as a starter, and he was replacing the great Troy Smith. With a year under his belt, this massive QB should be improved. Even though he has Robiskie and Hartline to throw to, Ohio State will not abandon the run game. Why would they? So, don't expect 3,000 yards. Lack of mobility is an issue. 10) *Mark Sanchez QB 6'4 220 USC Sanchez has a huge load to carry and must come up to speed quickly. If he plays to the All-American accolades he received, then he should be okay. But, this is the same program that sent Palmer, Leinart, and Booty to the NFL. Excellence is expected. He has had great mentors along the way, and does possess the right tools to get it done. His WRs aren't as good as people think, and he'll face some tough Defenses. 11) Rudy Carpenter QB 6'2 202 Arizona State Sam Keller was a decent QB by college standards, but Carpenter's play caused people to quickly forget about him, so he went walking. Last season, Carpenter threw for 3,200 yards and had a TD to Interception ratio of 25:10. His top two WRs hauled made up about 50% of his passing yards, and he gets them both back. Carpenter needs to add weight and learn to avoid the Sack much better...took 54 last season. 12) *Josh Freeman QB 6'6 250 Kansas State in 2006, Freeman got his shot as a Freshman. He threw for 6 TDs and 15 Interceptions...ouch. But through it all, he showed athletic ability and a ton of promise. Last season, he improved, as he threw for 3,352 yards, 18 TDs, and 11 Interceptions. He has a canon for an arm, which can be as much of a problem as it is a blessing. He still thinks he can muscle the ball past anyone. Once he learns to make better decisions and not force the ball, he'll be a phenom. 13) *Colt McCoy QB 6'3 210 Texas Vince Young left some huge shoes to fill. In his last season with the Longhorns, he threw for over 3,000 yards, 26 TDs, and 10 Interceptions. McCoy came in as a Freshman and threw for 2,570 yards, 29 TDs and 7 Interceptions. Not too shabby. Last season, he threw for more yards, but had almost as many Interceptions (18) as he did TDs (22). He needs to get back to basics and play to the way he's been coached. 14) Graham Harrell QB 6'2 205 Texas Tech Over the past two seasons, no other active FBS QB has anywhere near Harrell's stats. In that time, he's thrown for 10,260 yards and 86 TDs. Texas Tech QBs always have gaudy numbers though, right? They do, but not to Harrell's standard. In the two seasons prior to Harrell's, Cumbie and Hodges combined for 8,980 yards and 63 TDs. He'll have to overcome the hype that he's more than just a system QB. 15) Willie Tuitama QB 6'3 220 Arizona Tuitama had as good of a season as any QB in the PAC-10 last year. He threw for just shy of 3,700 yards, and posted a TD to Interception ratio of 28:12. On average, he threw 1 Interception for every 44 attempts. For reference, John David Booty threw 1 out of 34...Tuitama has good size for the position and spreads the ball around nicely. He gets his top four receiving targets back. He should lead the PAC-10 in yards and TDs. Other Considerations... Max Hall - Brigham Young, Chase Daniel - Missouri, Rusty Smith - Florida-Atlantic, Chase Holbrook - New Mexico State, Rhett Bomar - Sam Houston State, Chase Clement - Rice, Kellen Lewis - Indiana, Jake Locker - Washington, Jonathon Crompton - Tennessee, Zac Robinson - Oklahoma State, John Parker Wilson - Alabama |
Players are rated in terms of their professional potential at the stated position. Ratings may not be indicative of where a player is expected to be selected in the draft. Players listed are generally those eligible for the upcoming draft. The QB position may see the greatest question mark in Senior talent as any position out there. Many folks debate whether Tebow or Stafford is the better QB and pro prospect. However, neither is entering 2008 as a Senior. In fact, the underclassmen look quite impressive. Don't get me wrong, there are some skilled Senior QBs out there. But, there doesn't appear to be a Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco in the bunch. There may be a few Chad Henne types, but the class just isn't that deep as a whole. |
